The Emu is a practical crossbody bag and a fantastic entry-level project for newer bag makers.

The front magnetic slip pocket keeps frequently used items within easy reach, while two zippered pockets and an additional small slip pocket provide plenty of organisation. A secure zippered top closure helps keep your belongings safely inside.

The vinyl base adds durability and protects the bottom of the bag, while the adjustable, removable strap allows you to customise the fit.

MATERIALS REQUIRED

• 0.5 m exterior fabric
• 0.5 m exterior interfacing if using a cotton exterior
• 0.75 m lining fabric
• 0.75 m lining interfacing
• 0.2 m vinyl
• 0.1 m base stabiliser
• Two D-rings—15 mm (⅝ inch) used for the sample, but other sizes may be substituted
• Three size #5 zipper pulls

 

• Size #5 zipper tape cut into:

  • Two 8 inch (20.3 cm) lengths

  • One 12 inch (30.5 cm) length

• One magnetic snap—a rivet-on magnet was used for the sample
• Two 25 mm (1 inch) swivel clips
• One 25 mm (1 inch) strap adjuster
• Six rivets
• One zipper end
• One 25 mm (1 inch) strap end
